Chesney Cancels Austin Show

Posted by AllAboutCountry.com on February 25, 2003 at 19:07:00:

Due to severe ice storms, Kenny Chesney's “Margaritas 'n' Senoritas” tour is being forced to cancel tonight's show at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX.
The show’s rigging truck is stuck outside of Dallas, and Chesney decided to pull the plug over concern for his touring personnel and due to inadequate time to set his stage.

"It takes an act of God to keep me out of Austin," said Chesney. "I love Austin as much as anywhere on this earth...it is a real drag this happened. With so many dates, though, left to go on this tour don't want to take any chances or risk anyone getting hurt."

No rescheduled date has been announced.

In other artist news, Chesney has been voted “Performer of the Year” in Radio & Records. Designed to recognize an artist's comprehensive career impact, the panel of radio programmers and managers voted the honor based on Chesney's single, retail, concert and awards success over the last calendar year.

"Somebody told me that was like their Entertainer of the Year," said Chesney. "Coming from the guys who're on the frontlines with the fans, the people who bring them our music and sort of serve as the bridge between us and all the people who listen and care -- well, that's heavy. And given that they've watched this career grow, that they believed when a lot of people didn't, it lets you know what the good stuff really is: other people sharing in your dream and then seeing it start to come true."

Country artist Clay Walker is opening up about his personal battle ...

Posted by Billboard on February 25, 2003 at 16:09:45:

Country artist Clay Walker is opening up about his personal battle against multiple sclerosis (MS) to help others living with the disease and to assist in finding a cure. Walker has founded the Band Against MS Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making
information available about living with MS, and to providing funding
for research and MS programs.

Never heard about him before! Spelar några spår i nästa Country, Country Music!

Hej Janne!

==========================================
STORY BEHIND THE SONG
==========================================
According to Neal Merritt, Little Jimmy Dickens only number one song, “May
The Bird Of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose,” was written in about twenty minutes
after watching Johnny Carson!  Neal said, “I was living in El Paso, Texas at the time and was working for KHEY Radio. I turned the TV on late one night and Johnny Carson was coming on. During his opening monologue, he said, “May the bird of paradise lay a golden egg
in Skitch Henderson’s beard.”
     That line struck me as a good idea for a song. I opened a couple of beers and by the time I finished them, I had also finished the song—in about twenty minutes!  I just changed the line about “lay a golden egg” to “fly up your nose” and “May The Bird Of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose” was written!”  The Jimmy Dickens record entered the country music charts October 9th, 1965 and made it to number one where it stayed for two weeks. It was Dickens’s 11th chart single and his only number one!  It was on the country charts for 19 weeks.  The song also reach # 15 on the pop music charts on December 4th, 1965.
