Nyhetsbrev nr. 27 9 april 2003

Country Festival? JL
QUESTION:
A friend of mine used to sing a song about "Seasons Of My Heart" and he said
it was a George Jones record. I never heard it on the radio. Do you have any
information?
ANSWER:
"Seasons Of My Heart" was the flipside
of George Jones' first chart single,
"Why Baby Why" which peaked at # 4 in 1955 and was charted for 18 weeks.
JL

STORY BEHIND THE SONG
==========================================
The Jim Reeves hit, "Mexican Joe," came about because record producer and
label owner Fabor Robison walked into a Nacogdoches, Texas music store and
asked the store owners if they knew of any local songwriters.
They put him in touch with Mitchell Torok, who played a song he had written
titled "Mexican Joe." Robison told Torok that the song would
be Jim
Reeves next record, which did not excite Torok because he had intended to
show the song to Hank Snow.
When Jim Reeves' "Mexican Joe" began climbing the charts, Robison went back
to Nacodoches, Texas to see if Mitchell Torok had any more songs he could
use.
Torok played him a song he just finished, titled "Caribbean." Robison like
the song and thought it would be a great follow-up for Reeves' "Mexican
Joe."
But Torok wasn't interested because he wanted to record the song himself.
Robison laughed at him and said, "You don't understand. Jim Reeves is hot
and you're not!"
But Torok held his ground and Robison finally gave in and signed Mitchell
Torok to a recording contract on the strength of "Caribbean."
"Caribbean" entered the country music charts August 22nd, 1953 and made it
to number one, where it stayed for two weeks.
It was on the charts for 24 weeks.
Torok re-recorded the song in 1959 and it peaked at # 27 on the pop music
charts.
Det var allt för denna gång! Vi hörs i nästa vecka!
