Fredag morgon och en ny helg på väg! Tiden går verkligen fort men trots detta så finns det alltid nyheter att förmedla till er läsare! Det tillkommer hela tiden nya "prenumeranter" och jag vill påminna er om att tipsa andra countrymusikintresserade om att de bara kan skicka in sin mailadress till mig. Sedan kommer ett eller två nyhetsmail i veckan helt gratis! På köpet får de lite åsikter förmedlade av undertecknad! Ha nu en fin helg och ta det lugn! Å du grabbar och tjejer försök att undvika dessa förbenade mobiltelefoner som ringer i tid och otid. Tänk på edra medmänniskor, det är inte alla som är intresserade av att veta att du ska handla mjölk på hemvägen!

A six-pack to go kör valborgsspecial onsdagen den 30 april. Som vanligt spelar vi den bästa countryn som någonsin pressats på vinyl och som vanligt kör vi på Bröderna Olsson, Folkungagatan 84, 21-01. Tack Pontus Juth, Ralf Fredblad, Peter Frövik och Bobby Ahl för besöket i studion då jag sände Country, Country Music i tisdags! Förhoppningsvis är ni snart igång med AFFs programserie med bara Bluegrass och Old Timey music på Radio Lidingö 97,8. Great!

Age and the steel guitar player …

I hear the rumor that steel guitar is dying because there are no new people coming in learning to play steel guitar. To put everyone’s mind to rest, this is totally untrue. We’re making

There are many steel guitar players working in Nashville under the age of thirty, however steel guitar seems to be one of those instruments that the player always gets better with time. There are many bands across the country with young drummers, guitar players and singers that prefer having a much more mature steel guitar player amongst their ranks.

Yes, this is true, steel guitar players seem to gain more respect with age. Example, John Hughey with Vince Gill … Tom Brumley in Branson … Terry Bethel … and who could forget Buddy Emmons working with the Everly’s … Buddy isn’t 70 yet, but he’s close. Even little Paul Franklin is a grandfather. Taste, finesse and tone seem to come with time to a steel player and as most of you more mature readers realize, the great steel players don’t judge how well each other play by how many notes they can play in a measure.

Unlike professional strippers and beauty queens, steel players, pilots and doctors get better with age … age and experience is a definite plus factor. Young players can develop dexterity in their fingers very quickly but it’s the mind communicating with others minds and the finger is just another link in the chain.

Are you worried that you can’t play as fast as the banjo or guitar player in the band? Do yourself a favor and don’t try to because you can do many things on steel guitar that they can’t dream of. Steel guitar needs to do the things that it can do the best by being the steel guitar and not mimic a banjo, guitar, piano or whatever. Be a mature steel guitar player no matter what your age is. Play pretty, tasteful, with good tone and you’ll work forever and enjoy steel guitar more while you’re doing it. This is what the people that employ steel guitar really want to hear out of it anyway.

Are you getting older and thinking that soon you’re going to be too old to play in a band or not wanted anymore? Don’t be silly. You’re probably playing better now than you ever have. Get in there and get the respect your age and experience deserves. If you’re a young player on this mailing list, God bless you, your best days are ahead of you.

Tack Tony Kaplan, Expressen som i onsdagens tidning belyser dansbandens tekniska värld. Att de flesta av de mest populära banden använt inspelade bakgrunder vid sina framträdanden under många, många år är väl ingen hemlighet för någon vid det här laget! Men kanske inte alla har fattat att det är studiomusiker som står för det musikaliska på deras plattor. Det är ju därför alla populära dansband på platta låter exakt likadant. Samma producenter, samma musikanter på alla låtar! Sticker jag ut hakan? Yes!

Det var allt för den här gången och om jag inte snart blivit halshuggen av någon förbannad svensktoppssångare så hörs vi på tisdag igen!
