Nyhetsbrev nr. 035       9 maj  2004

med min selv komponerte hyllest sang til Johnny Cash, ”Heres To You (The Man in Black)”.

Music Country” i tiden fremover, spennende!

Arly Karlsen

STORY BEHIND THE SONG

According to Kris Kristofferson, the Ray Price 1970 number one hit, “For The Good Times,” was written while driving from Nashville, Tennessee, to the Gulf of Mexico.

Kris said, “I wrote “For The Good Times” in the early summer of 1968. AT that time, I had two jobs. One was writing songs- which was paying nothing at the time and the other job was flying helicopters for offshore rigs in the Gulf Of Mexico.”

“I never left Nashville for the Gulf until the last minute because I hated that drive. I was driving an Opel at the time and it was always a tough trip down there!”

“But on one of those trips to the Gulf, I started thinking about how it would be to make love to a woman for the last time. After awhile- I got a melody in my mind and it really turned me on. I remember I kept thinking about the line, “hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing softly against the window.”

“I couldn’t wait to get to where I was going to try the song out on a guitar! I didn’t finish the song on that trip-I only wrote part of it. But the song stayed on my mind and I finished it sometime later.”

“For The Good Times,” became Ray Price’s 56th chart single and his 5th number one.

It entered the country music charts June 27th, 1970 and was on the charts for 26 weeks.

The recording also scored a # eleven on the pop music charts.

Hei igjen Janne !

endelig tilbake fra ferien.  Her er noe som kanskje er interessant?

BLUEGRASS NYTT Nr. 11 - 23. april, 2004

KALENDEREN:

Mvh  Bosse Engzell

Yepp ! Låten " Notime for blues " gick in på 3:e plats på ICU- top five.

Urban

Carolina Åkerlind och undertecknad ligger fortfarande kvar på förstaplatsen på Country Traxlistan med I Wonder Where You Are Tonight. Riktigt kul!

Willie Nelson Cancels Concerts
ERIE, Pa. - Willie Nelson (news) has canceled concerts for the next two months to have surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome, a promoter said.

The 71-year-old country-western star, whose hits include "Whiskey River" and "On the Road Again," was apparently in so much pain he couldn't finish a show Saturday in Las Vegas.
"Willie Nelson will have surgery to relieve extreme pain caused by carpal tunnel syndrome," Carlos Larraz, a promoter with National Artists Corp, said Monday.

Nelson had ten concerts scheduled for the remainder of May and June, including an appea-rance at the three-day Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn., beginning June 11.

Charley Pride Recovering After Surgery
DALLAS (AP) -- Country singer Charley Pride is expected to make a full recovery following brain surgery last week, his personal manager said Monday. Pride, 66, was hospitalized Wednesday for a subdural hematoma, a blood clot that occurs when blood from a torn vessel collects between the brain and the skull. He had sought treatment after experiencing severe headaches, his manager, John Daines, said. The surgery was performed Saturday at an undisclosed hospital. Daines said Pride was alert and awake when he visited him Monday morning. He's expected to make a complete recovery and could be released from the hospital Tuesday, Daines said. "He wants to go back to work," Daines told The Associated Press.

Pride's nine-show, 12-day tour of Canada scheduled to start this week has been rescheduled for August, said Daines. Pride will take four to six weeks off and recover at his Dallas home.

The singer's hits include "All I Have to Offer You (Is Me)" and "Kiss an Angel Good Morning."

PHOENIX (AP) -- Country singer Glen Campbell pleaded guilty Monday to extreme drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Under the plea agreement in Maricopa County Superior Court, Campbell faces 10 days in jail when he is formally sentenced June 14. He'll be eligible for work furlough after 48 hours and is expected to serve 75 hours of community service under the deal. An aggravated assault charge was dropped.

Campbell was arrested in November near his Phoenix home after leaving the scene of a minor traffic accident. He was accused of kneeing a police officer after being taken into custody. The officer wasn't hurt. Extreme drunken driving applies to a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 or higher. Police said breath tests on Campbell showed he had a 0.20 blood-alcohol level at the time of his arrest. The legal limit for Arizona drivers is 0.08. The 68-year-old singer has lived in Arizona for more than two decades. His hits include "Rhinestone Cowboy," "Galveston," "Gentle on My Mind" and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix."

Om ni inte redan har köpt plattan  Livin´ Lovin´ Losin´ som är  en tribute till The Louvin Brother, där bl a Glen Campbell gör en makalös version av "When I Stop Dreaming", gör det genast!  JL.

Morten Donslund er i Mister Jack and the Daniels blevet afløst af guitaristen Anders Lampe.

JL.

BRAD PAISLEY MOVES TO L.A.
He may be a country star, but Brad Paisley no longer calls Nashville home. He's loaded up the truck and moved to sunny southern California with his wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley. Brad admits the move has taken some getting used to. "It's different," he says. "It's about figuring out your little cliques of people you want to be around." Brad adds that he's on the road more than at home anyway, and stresses that he's never far from Nashville. The newlyweds live in the Pacific Palisades area. "It actually reminds me a little of Franklin, Tennessee," says Brad. "It's a little community with its own mayor and a parade. It feels like a hometown."

Buffett Has 'License' To Court Country Fans
Jimmy Buffett is no stranger to the country charts. But he's preparing to go after mainstream country acceptance in a big way with the July 13 release of his RCA debut album, "License To Chill." Nine of the album's 16 tracks feature Buffett in duets with many of country music's "A"-list artists. Alan Jackson, Buffett's partner on last year's eight-week No. 1 hit "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," joins Buffett on "Boats To Build."

Other artists featured on duets are Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Martina McBride, George Strait, Clint Black, Bill Withers and Nanci Griffith. The first single, a cover of Hank Williams' "Hey Good Lookin,'" features Buffett with a whole bunch of pals: Black, Chesney, Jackson, Keith and Strait.

RCA Label Group chairman Joe Galante tells Billboard Buffett hand-picked all the guest artists. "It's about the music for him," Galante says. "He just likes these folks musically and personally." He adds that listeners can feel "the artists' enthusiasm and affection for Jimmy."

Galante says Buffett, who was most recently signed to MCA, approached him with the idea for the project last fall. After hearing some of the tracks Buffett was working on, Galante says, "we decided to move forward. We were very excited about the music."

In addition to targeting country, the label may work tracks to other radio formats. But "the primary focus is to get country fans activated about this project ... A lot of what his fan base is is what our [country] fan base is. If you're a Parrothead, there are songs like 'Coastal Confessions' that resonate with the fans. And if you're a country fan, you can't get much better than Kenny, Toby, Alan, Martina and George Strait."

"License To Chill" is Buffett's first studio album since 2002's "Far Side of the World," which debuted at No. 5 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 382,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan

Buffett begins a round of dates Tuesday (May 18) in Denver and will play a previously announced May 29 show with Jackson and Strait at Texas Stadium outside Dallas. An 11-date summer tour gets underway June 29 in Camden, N.J., and will wrap Sept. 10 and 12 at Boston's Fenway Park.

'Hee Haw' history
In summer 1969, Hee Haw was introduced as CBS's replacement for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. It was first videotaped at WLAC studios (now WTVF) in downtown Nashville, but moved to Opryland in 1980.

Musicians Buck Owens and Roy Clark were co-hosts, while a bevy of beautiful girls, country comedians and other pickers and grinners filled the bill.Guest performers were among country and pop's elite, and included John Ritter, Kathy Lee Gifford, Sammy Davis Jr., Alan Jackson, Alabama, Marty Robbins, Jerry Clower and Billy Graham.

CBS dropped Hee Haw from the network in 1971, and the producers decided to keep churning out episodes for syndication. The idea proved to be pure gold. In 1992, 585 episodes later, the show stopped production, although The Nashville Network kept reruns on the air until 1997.

Besides its many stars and songs, favorite scenes and skits included jokes from the cornfield; Minnie Pearl's schoolhouse; the Culhanes in the parlor; Clark and Owens pickin' and grinnin'; Archie Campbell and Gordie Tapp singing Pffft You Were Gone; the board fence whacking folks in the behind after telling a bad joke; Campbell in the barbershop; Kenny Price and Lulu Roman in the truck stop; and Roni Stoneman and Tapp as ''The Naggers.''

Terri Clark To Join Opry
The cowboy-hat-wearing woman who sings I Wanna Do It All broke out that song last night on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry after being asked to join the country music institution.

During the televised segment of last night's Opry, Terri Clark became the latest performer invited to become a member. The hour also saw the Opry debuts of Nashville Star winner Brad Cotter and Redneck Woman Gretchen Wilson.

Terri performed her new single Girls Lie Too, for her first song last night before segment host and Opry member Steve Wariner surprised her by bringing her mother, Linda Clark, on stage to reveal a sign that read: ''Grand Ole Opry June 12,'' which is the day Terri will be formally inducted.

After the show, a beaming Terri said, ''I am completely and utterly freaked out right now. I saw my mom come out and she said she wanted to be here if I was ever inducted, and I knew what it meant. The Grand Ole Opry is country music history, and I am so honored to be the first Canadian female asked to join.''

Terri this month is up for Top Female Vocalist at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. The 2003 nominee for the Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year also is a four-time winner of the Canadian Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year.

Janne Lindgren

STORY BEHIND THE SONG

According to Jay Miller, Kitty Well’s 1952 hit, “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels,” was written while sitting in his car on the side of the highway.

Jay said, “Hank Thompson’s “Wild Side Of Life” was a big hit at the time. It was on the radio all the time and on all the jukeboxes. Several times I had thought of writing a sequel to that song but each time I would try- the lyrics just didn’t strike me as strong enough.”

“One night as I was driving home from a trip to Rayne, Louisiana, I was listening to the radio and they played Hank Thompson’s “Wild Side Of Life.” I guess the timing was finally right because another set of lyrics came to my mind And I thought these were the ones I had been searching for. I pulled my car off the highway--dug out a tablet I kept in the glove compartment and started writing the lyrics down. The lines just kept coming and I just kept writing them down. And that’s how “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels” was written.”

But Kitty Wells was not impressed with the demo tape of the song when her husband Johnny Wright played it for her back in 1952. In fact she wasn’t impressed with the idea of recording anything at that time. She had recorded eight songs for RCA Victor--which had gone nowhere. Her husband’s career was on a roll--as half of the hit duo--Johnny and Jack, and Kitty was resigned to being a stay at home mom to their three children.

But she would make $125 union scale for the recording session and that would help pay some bills so she agreed to record “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels.” But she certainly wasn’t expecting to have a hit record!

The record entered the country music charts July 19th, 1952 and began climbing to the number one spot-where it stayed for six weeks.

It was on the country music charts for 18 weeks.

It was Kitty Wells’ first chart single and her first number one.

Country Songwriter Kilgore Set For Surgery    Mon May 17,12:51 PM ET
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Country songwriter and manager Merle Kilgore was scheduled to have quadruple-bypass heart surgery Monday to clear four blocked arteries. He learned he had a heart problem while being tested for severe back pain; he's also dealing with a collapsed lumbar vertebra.

Kilgore said that after his heart surgery, he'll have to wear a back brace for 12 weeks. He said it's blue and looks like something he might wear on his boat. He said he was thinking of writing on it the "'S.S. Boogie King,' because it is funny-looking," he said.

Kilgore wrote "Ring of Fire," one of the late Johnny Cash (news)'s signature songs. He also manages Hank Williams (news) Jr. and is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International Hall of Fame.

Hej janne.

QUESTION: Will you please settle an argument? My dad says that Tex Ritter wrote “Hillbilly Heaven” but my mom says some other guy wrote it. Can you settle this?

ANSWER: During an interview several years ago, Tex Ritter stated that “Hillbilly Heaven” was written by Eddie Dean and Hal Sothern, but that he re-wrote his version of the song before recording it. So, Tex was co-writer on his recorded version only, but not the original copyright.

STORY BEHIND THE SONG

According to Ted Harris, the idea for Carl Belew’s 1965 hit, “Crystal Chandelier,” came from a real life situation.

Ted said, “”Crystal Chandelier” was inspired by a real life poor boy-rich girl situation in my own life. These two people suddenly came into more money than they knew what to do with and their marriage ended in separation.”

“Several years later, I was performing at a social event and one of those partners showed up. And I got to thinking that this person was there-surrounded by all those people-dressed in their best and displaying all their social graces-and although that person was surrounded by all of that---they were still all alone.”

“There was a large crystal chandelier hanging in the room and I started thinking about that crystal chandelier just hanging there-the greatest symbol of the tinsel world! It hangs there—so beautiful but so cold and completely lifeless. You can see its beauty but that’s all there is. And that’s where the song “Crystal Chandelier” came from.”

“Crystal Chandelier” became Carl Belew’s 5th chart single.

It entered the country music charts August 7th 1965 and peaked at # 12.

It was on the country music charts for 18 weeks.

Carl Belew died in 1990 at the age of 59.

A six-pack to go återvänder till MONDO.

hyggelige timer.
Mange hilsnen  Anni Filt

Mycket vackert.  DS

Nyhetsbrev nr. 041       BREAKING NEWS      28 maj  2004

Men tjejen!!!

Simon

Önska Country i radio, även i din dator.

Country star lands in Amarillo jail    -    The Amarillo Globe-News
A Texas-born country music star dogged by problems with the law ran into trouble in Amarillo on Wednesday. Doug Supernaw, 43, was in the Potter County Detention Center after being arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, less than 2 ounces, according to jail records. Bond was set at $1,500. Details about Supernaw's arrest were not available at press time.

Supernaw scored a No. 1 hit in 1993 with the song "I Don't Call Him Daddy." He also had Top 5 hits with "Reno" and "Not Enough Hours in the Night."  Earlier this month, a district judge in Brenham declared a mistrial and set a new date to try Supernaw for bail jumping and failure to appear, according to an article in the Brenham Banner-Press.

Supernaw also is facing a felony charge of assault against a public servant in connection with a 2002 incident at a Brenham nightclub. Police responding to a disturbance claimed that Supernaw was drunk when he allegedly "berated and then flailed at several officers before being taken into custody," the Brenham paper reported. A Brenham jury trying Supernaw on misdemeanor charges related to that incident gave him a 14-day jail sentence and a fine for resisting arrest. After Supernaw did not show up for the trial on the felony charge, he was arrested and charged with jumping bail, according to the Brenham Banner-Press.

Folks thankful for Stanley museum, music trail
By RENA POWERS, Staff Writer

CLINTWOOD - Long after the ceremony was finished, people were still talking about old-time mountain music legend Dr. Ralph Stanley, the museum being created in his honor and the creation of a heritage music trail in the region.
People from throughout Southwest Virginia traveled to Clintwood last Wednesday morning to watch Gov. Mark Warner sign the bill creating Virginia's Heritage Music Trail: The Crooked Road.
Following the 10 a.m. ceremony, which took place on the front porch of the planned Ralph Stanley Museum and Traditional Mountain Music Center, many people gathered next door at the town's community center for refreshments.
Prepared by local Virginia Cooperative Extension staff, the menu included foods from the Appalachian Legacy line, mountain heritage foods endorsed by Stanley. The food line bears Stanley's name and likeness on the label.
"The event was wonderful and the rain just did not dampen the spirits of anyone, noted extension agent Phyllis Deel. Deel said last Wednesday's event was a collaborative effort of many people, including the Heart of Appalachia Tourism Authority.
"The ceremony was very meaningful, seeing the project come this far to fruition," added Deel, who has been a member of the music trail steering committee since its inception.
While food was the main focus inside the community center, others stood outside, umbrellas protecting them from the rain, discussing the trail and how Stanley has brought new recognition to the county.
"He has put us on the map and people know we are here," noted one woman.
"If Bill Monroe is the father of bluegrass music, Ralph Stanley must be its favorite uncle," said Scott Moore, chairman of the Dickenson County Board of Supervisors. "If anybody can listen to him sing 'Amazing Grace' and not get emotional - well, I can't imagine that happening," he said.
Stanley sings about the heart and soul of Southwest Virginia, noted Del. Clarence "Bud" Phillips, D-Sandy Ridge, who sponsored the trail legislation. "I believe the museum represents the heart and soul of Southwest Virginia," he noted.
Rita Forrester, daughter of Jeanette Carter and member of the board of directors of the Carter Fold, one of the trail's anchors, said she is delighted by the trail's creation.
"We are so rich in musical heritage and the Ralph Stanley Museum will give us another chance to let the world know just what we have here in the region," she added.
Bill Kornrich, coordinator of The Crooked Trail, described the museum as the trail's crown jewel.
Kornrich believes the trail and its venues will help boost tourism in the region. "It will have a major economic impact on the region and will promote not only the musical heritage and culture of the area, but its beautiful natural resources," he said.
Denise Gray, member of the museum's board of directors, said last Wednesday's ceremoney marked a significant day in the county's history. "It will forever change Dickenson County. We should all be grateful for the gift given to us by Ralph Stanley," noted Gray.
Robert Dowdy, of Salem, said it was a pleasure and an honor to be at the ceremony. He is the banjo player for The Bluegrass Brothers, the band selected to sing "The Crooked Road," which honors bluegrass and traditional country music. The song was written by noted singer/songwriter Tom T. Hall and his wife, Dixie.
"I have been performing bluegrass music for a long time and when the band first heard the song, we liked it and wanted to record it," he said. "It's a great song and we are excited about the trail."

Hi guys and gals,
There have been many tributes to Buddy Emmons. He is not unknown and we all have our own stories concerning our meetings and all the times we've heard him play. Having seen Buddy in Chattanooga this past weekend, it brought back my personal rush of memories from all the years I've known Buddy. I met him in 1955, spent 3 hours with him between shows backstage at the War Memorial Auditorium in Norfolk, VA. I was 14 and he was 17. The brake cable on my Vespa motor scooter broke on the way to the show where I met Buddy and he loaned me a bass string off his Bigsby triple neck to replace it so I could get home.

Several years later, 1960 I believe, I had $23.50 and had to get from Duncan, OK back to Norfolk, VA which was a 1500 mile drive in my worn out 1950 Mercury. Gasoline was 18-23 cents a gallon. Re-refined bulk oil in the glass quart jar was 15 cents a quart. Even at these low prices, I barely made it to Norfolk on the $23.50 which included a pack of cheese, a loaf of bread and all the water I could drink. At that time, Broadway Street in Nashville was the route you had to take to get through town. There were no bypasses or interstate routes around town. So as I was chugging through Nashville, I saw the Ernest Tubb record shop on my right, slammed on my brakes and thought, I'll go in there and see if they have any Buddy Emmons records. I parked, went in and asked the salesperson, "Have you any Buddy Emmons recordings here?" to which they replied, "We just sold out, however, Buddy just walked out of here, walked across the street to Tootsies to get a burger, go! ask him if he has any in his car."

I proceeded to run across the street. There was Buddy and Jimmy Day playing the pinball machines, prodding the jukebox and having a great time by themselves. I introduced myself and Buddy remembered me like it was yesterday. He offered to buy me a beer. My reply was only if I could have a hamburger to go with it because I'm broke and trying to get across country. Best hamburger I ever had!

These are but two of the great memories I have of Buddy Emmons early days. We aren't close today because our careers have taken us in different directions but my respect for his abilities and accomplishments knows no bounds. I worked the show this weekend in Chattanooga as did Buddy and had to smile at the memories he has given me over the past 50 years. Why am I saying this, you ask? Because I know of no other steel guitarist on the face of this earth who has inspired so many people and affected the style of steel guitar anymore than this incredible legend. I know you have your stories also, possibly someday you can tell me yours.

Your buddy, Bobbe Seymour

UNT

Plac. Artist/Låt Veckor
1 (1) HAZARD "Jackpot" (SWE) 5

2 (2) SINGLE WHITE FEMALE "Daddy" (SWE) 6

3 (4) COUNTRY MINSTRELS "I wonder where you are tonight" (SWE) 3

4 (3) LEE MARVELOUS "One step right behind" (SWE) 3

5 (5) KENTUCKY "There goes my heart" (SWE) 9

6 (7) JILL JOHNSON "Time will fly" (SWE) 9

7 (NY) OVE WULFF "Small town hearts" (SWE) NY

UTMANARE YVONNE & THE QUICK PICKS "Miss you" (SWE)

UTMANARE HIGHWAY 40 "My o my" (SWE)

UTMANARE RANCHEROS "Little cabin on the hill" (SWE)

Låten "Little cabin on the hill" är hämtad från bandets fullängds-CD som spelades in "live" hos Radio Gotland under 2002. Bandet består av Wincent Ullgren, Anders Lindby, Bengt Johansson, Jan Pettersson och Jan Magnusson.

NYTT!

JL.

ANSWER: “Show Me The Way To The Circus” was a # 44 hit for a group called The Homesteaders, in 1966. It was on the charts for 7 weeks.

The Homesteaders was a vocal trio, led Jerry Rivers.
